Planning your trip to Jamaica really could not be any easier than it is today. With so many packages and accommodations to pick from, the only part you need to do is get yourself there. A few tips will put you on your way to a stress-free vacation on the beautiful island of Jamaica in no time.

Look for Packages

The best way to plan your trip is to choose from a variety of different vacation packages. Packages typically include the airfare, hotel stay, all meals and snacks, and even some of the activities offered on the island are included as well. Drinks may be included but are usually additional cost during the vacation. It really is best to book a package so that you avoid the stress of booking all different elements such as the airfare and which water excursion you want to take. This will not only save you time but also money, leaving you more to buy souvenirs.

You may be able to pick the resort you stay at with the package you choose, and the two most-recommended places to stay are the Caves Resort and Jake’s boutique hotel.

Weather and Packing

You always want to make sure that you study up on the weather before you travel to the Caribbean. Most of the time it is gorgeous, but you never know when those tropical storms will roll around. It’s best to be prepared for all situations. The rainy seasons in Jamaica are May to June and September to November. Rain is not overly abundant during this time, but it is not as sunny and, well, perfect as the other months.

Always remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Those are key things to stay safe from the sun and cool from the heat. You should also bring clothes that are 100 percent cotton because cotton is lightweight and allows your skin to breathe and is absorbent on those really hot afternoons. Shorts, tank tops, sundresses and swimsuits are what you will wear most. Bringing a long pair of pants is a good idea just in case a day is unexpectedly cool.

Important Documents

Before you even book your packages and make all final plans, you need to make sure all of your necessary documents are in order and available when you need them. Your passport is perhaps the biggest necessity in that you will not be allowed in or out of the country without it. Also make sure to have an alternate form of identification with you, and bring your travel health insurance cards in case of an emergency. You can purchase travel health insurance based on the cost of your trip and the amount of time you will be in Jamaica. This can run you between $5 and $200. You can buy a small travel pack that you wear across your chest to carry these important documents in while on your vacation. You never know when you may need them, and you want to know where they are at all times.

Currency

The Jamaican dollar is the currency used in Jamaica. You can exchange currency in the airport before you leave, or when you get there at the hotel. You definitely need to keep all of your receipts because you will need them to convert your Jamaican dollars back to U.S. dollars upon arriving home.
